Global Citizens Project-Costa Rica

The Global Citizens Project inspires and equips NMSU students to become Global Citizen Leaders. It is a scholarship program that provides NMSU undergraduate students, who may not otherwise have the opportunity, the resources to have a global experience. Combined with Global Citizenship training, leadership workshops, and practice engaging in the local and global community, students will also spend 8 days in Costa Rica. This non-credit, faculty led trip includes culture and language immersion as well as volunteerism at Life Monteverde, a local agricultural and nature conservation organization. This is a non-credit faculty-led program designed to build Global Citizen Leaders.

The Opportunity:

Ten students will be selected to be the second annual Global Citizen Project Scholars. Selected students will participate in leadership activities, learn more about how to become a global citizen, spend 8 days in Costa Rica with Dr Gabriela Moreno, Language and Linguistics. Students will have the opportunity to be leaders among their classmates, network and make new friends while experiencing another culture for the first time. The estimated cost to the student selected is $500. This includes flight, but does not include passport and spending money while abroad.

Accommodations - Students will stay with carefully selected host families for the majority of the stay.
Language Requirement - there is no language requirement, but it is always good to know a little before you go!
Health and Safety - Costa Rica is one of the top locations for NMSU students abroad. Rare petty theft and stomach bugs are the biggest concerns of those going to Costa Rica. By going in a group, cases of incidences decrease.
